Donald Fixico, an American Indian, has been teaching indian native regalia and writing history for a quarter of a century. This book is the direct result of his experience as a scholar who'thinks like an Indian' in an academic environment created predominantly by non-Indian thinkers. This book addresses current approaches to studying Native American traditional knowledge indian native regalia and acknowledges an Indian intellectualism that has up until now been ignored in studying Native American history. Killing the White Man's Indian In the face of a new lightly romanticized view of Native Americans, Killing the White Mans Indian bravely confronts the current myths indian native regalia and often contradictory realities of tribal life today. For the first time in generations, Indians are shaping their own destinies, largely beyond the control of whites, reinventing Indian education indian native regalia and justice, exploiting the principle of tribal sovereignty in ways that empower tribal governments far beyond most Americans imaginations. While new found power has enriched tribal life indian native regalia and prospects, indian native regalia and has made Native Americans fuller participants in the American dream, it has brought tribal governments into direct conflict with local economics indian native regalia and the federal government.Based on three years of research on the Native American reservations, indian native regalia and written without a hidden conservative bias or politically correct agenda, Killing the White Man's Indian takes on Native American politics indian native regalia and policies today in all their contradictory--and controversial-guises.
